Is mortgage help still available where you live?

The federal Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) helped homeowners catch up after the pandemic, but it's a one-time program that's ending and most state funds are gone. Get a quick read on whether you'd qualify and where things stand. Not legal or financial advice.

What HAF was

A pandemic program that's closing

HAF was funded once, under the American Rescue Plan, to help homeowners with a pandemic-era hardship catch up on past-due housing costs. Each state, territory, and tribe ran its own program with its own rules. The federal authority ends September 30, 2026, but in practice most state programs ran out of money earlier and have already closed. If your state's HAF is closed, you still have options — a free HUD counselor can walk you through loss mitigation and other help.
